I'm increasingly realising that the best people to go to for wisdom and common-sense are comedians. At the heart of great comedy is the ability to see beyond hypocrisy, pretension and snobbery. More than anyone else, comedians view the world with absolute clarity, seeing straight through ignorant blustering, arrogant self-importance and dewy-eyed idealism, to tap into our deepest truths.
So spare me the cheesy self-help books. Tim Minchin's 11 minute speech to University of Western Australia graduates contains more wisdom than a dozen of them.
