Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords follows the attempts of two naive musicians ("the fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand") to crack the big-time in New York. Bret and Jemaine live in a pokey apartment, and play insignificant gigs organised by their hopeless manager Murray Hewitt. Additional humour is provided by their streetwise friend Dave (Arj Barker), their obsessed (and only) fan Mel (Kristen Schaal), and a host of comedians in guest parts. It's the sort of show that you can find yourself chuckling about for days afterwards.

New Zealanders shares the English tendency towards understatement, and certainly much of the humour in the show comes from the deadpan delivery. Although every gig sees them play the same song (the plodding 'Who Wants to Rock the Party'), each episode features songs that satirise a range of musical styles. Their rapping is a sight to behold, as is Bret's attempt at a love song!
