Look, I'll confess I'm a fan of music that has a touch of drama. Anything that sounds remotely like a James Bond theme gets me a little bit excited. Give me belting vocals, swirling strings, thumping percussion and I'm swooning.
So I had trouble keeping the car on the road when the radio played Middle of the Road by a little Melbourne outfit called Cheeky Goose. Singer Isabelle Reynaud has one of those terrific character-filled voices that can both roar and purr. The music of Richard Butler manages to be powerful and delicate at the same time, and listening to their other tracks, has impressive variety.
